Channel 4 to Rid of Big Brother

By Musa Aykac
Aug 27, 2009
As the 2009 series of Big Brother came to an end there was speculation that Big Brother was going to be axed from channel 4. That is exactly what has happened and big brother is no longer set to air on the Channel.

To be honest I personally was not too much of a big brother fan, but I did watch it previous years and sometimes it was entertaining. But this year the show did not bother me in the slightest and I could not even be bothered to make the effort to watch even one broadcast.

As I have always said there is something missing from big brother compared to the other shows such as X Factor, Britain's Got Talent and Strictly Come Dancing, the thing that is missing is pure talent. I mean why do you think these other shows are so successful? It's simply because of the talent on the shows that keep them alive. If these shows failed to find talent for a few years, then they would end up losing viewers, but it's simply because they work.

Do not get me wrong Big Brother was really the first to introduce reality TV to the mainstream audience, and that's where its success was made. But people are just going on the show and having their 15 minutes of fame and making a fortune without working for it in the slightest. Big Brother over the past few years has literally been putting more and more outrageous characters on the screen to see if the show will attract more viewers. But it simply did not and viewers were instead trying to get away.

Big Brother is something that no longer appeals to the public, as this is now a public that has grown up with reality television and wants to see more action and talent then people merely sitting in a house all day and then suddenly being propelled into the limelight.

This could end up being a great decision for Channel 4 as they can now work on coming up with new ideas, that will again help reinvent TV. For the last few years they have been relying on big brother which has now had its final day. Thanks big brother for some great TV moments that will go down in history, but it's now time to hang your coat up and make way for another great Channel 4 programme.
