The Winning Hands In Poker
When new players begin to play poker, one of the most difficult tasks initially can be deciding upon which card poker game to play. Texas Hold Em is often the game that first comes to mind for many, due its popularity, but it can be a difficult game to learn for people who have no poker experience and therefore a game with less rules or stipulations, such as five card draw, may be more suitable to begin with
Regardless of the game that is played, it is important to know the values of the poker hands that are going to be used. Although people may have heard of a Full House or a Royal Flush, not many new players will actually be aware of what they mean, but it is imperative that all the terms are fully understood.
Below are all ten poker hands, beginning with the highest valued hand.
Royal Flush. The highest valued hand in any poker game is a royal flush. Consisting of an Ace, King, Queen, Jack and ten of the same the suit, it is seen as the most difficult hand to achieve due to its strict criteria.
Straight Flush. A player with a straight flush hand would be one whose had combines both a straight, where all cards are in immediate numerical order and a flush, in which all cards in the hand are of the same suit.
Four Of A Kind. To have a four of a kind hand, a poker player must have a hand that contains four cards, irrelevant of suit, but of the same number or face.
Full House. A full house hand is one in which a poker hand features both three of a kind and one pair hands, such as three Aces and two Kings.
Flush. A poker player with a flush hand one would be a player whose complete hand was made up of cards all of the same suit.
Straight. To achieve a straight poker hand, the player must have all five cards in immediate numerical order, no matter what suit they are.
Three Of A Kind. By having a three of a kind hand, a player would have three cards in their hand all of the same numerical value or face.
Two Pair. The achievement of a two pair hand would be one where a player has two sets of matching cards, i.e., two Jacks and two tens.
One Pair. Exactly as its title suggests, a player with a one pair hand would have a hand that features a single pair, such as two Queens.
High Card. In the event a player cannot create one of the above hands out of their cards, it is still possible for them to win, should their fellow players also have no qualifying hand. To do this, play would continue as normal and when the final betting has taken place and all players show their hands, the player with the highest valued card in their hand, generally seen as an Ace unless stated beforehand, would win the pot.
