A Free College Education From The American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan?

By Michael Kohler

One of the most hopeful financial creations in the last hundred years for the American economy is the stimulus package created by the Obama administration. In this unprecedented course of action, at a time where unemployment is lower than it has been in almost 30 years, the need for financial stimulus in our failing economy has become of paramount importance.

One of the ways that this package is going to help people in America find a new way of life that is stable and economically feasible is to go back to college. Here are a few things to consider if you want to change your life by getting a college degree for free courtesy of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan.

There are many aspects of what is called the American recovery and reinvestment plan. One of its major components it is providing students that are going to college a 2500 dollar college tax credit. This credit will be given to over 4 million college students as well as triple the number of fellowships in science to help motivate and spur the need for scientific innovation, something that has led our country in the last hundred years to being one of the greatest nations on earth.

How this helps college students other than providing a tax credit is providing single mothers with the opportunity to tap into over 12 billion dollars in funding that will be allocated to moms that are headed back to school. One of the toughest jobs in the world is a single parent taking care of their family.

They have to find work that they can juggle with babysitters or family while they toil at their workplace in order to provide a living for those that they love. The only time that these people would have the ability to go back to school is either in the evening or on their own schedule.

That is one of the benefits of going back to school in our technologically based age. Just 10 years ago, most students were moving away from their parents homes and finding rooms or dormitories to live in and states that were far away.

The idea of going to school was always wrapped around moving and with moving comes the added expenses of providing for yourself. In addition to that, college tuition, the cost of books, and is sometimes astronomical amounts for each unit per class is enough to keep most students in debt for the rest of their lives.

Although some students are fortunate enough to have parents that were fortuitous enough to create a nest egg to pay for their college education when they graduated from high school, most of them are taking out student loans and will end up repaying tens of thousands of dollars, even hundreds of thousands of dollars depending upon the profession that they have chosen to pursue.

What this administration wants to do, other than provide full accountability for government spending, is to use the recovery act to bolster the desires of people of any age to return back to college and earn degrees that will allow them to become more usable and current in our ever changing economy. Sometimes this can be a very difficult transition a few on our already working a full time job. But if your desire is strong enough, and you can see a way out of your current debt ridden hole, going back to college is a good thing because billions of dollars is waiting for millions of students that want to improve their current standing in life and move forward to a career that will be available to them once completing their college degree.

It only takes a few steps. You must first decide where you want to go. If you are a family person, then you need to consider online classes or universities that provide distance learning courses to get yourself started. These courses are actually very unique because they allow you to partake in classroom activities at your leisure. Classes are actually saved online for viewing at a later time.

Finally, you need to decide if this is for you. Can you work it into your schedule? Will you have enough time to be a proficient student or do you think you may end up quitting halfway through the semester. These final considerations are necessary before you make the move to go back to school and finish your college degree.

The money is there, and if you are single mom, there is a very good chance you will not have to take out loans from the financial aid department and that your college career will be paid for by funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan. Make that choice today and get that free college education that you know that you deserve.
