Scholarship for Being Left Handed: Finding Free Money for College
Hey, are you a southpaw going to college? You probably need more money for college. Many students want to get that cool scholarship for being left handed.
Sounds great, right? Earn a scholarship for a personal characteristic. I've researched this little field, the left handed scholarships of America. Sadly, I've only found one, for a little school called Juniata College in Pennsylvania.
Frederick and Mary F. Beckley set up this award, and if you want to go to Juniata, great. If not this doesn't work out for you, I have a few ideas for other scholarships.
Scholarships Are All About You! You need money for school, and scholarships make a lot of sense. Free money for college - who can argue. Let's look at a few scholarships and ideas to help you on your way.
First, the scholarship for being left handed isn't the only interesting one out there. You can get a scholarship for your heritage. Just look up Irish American scholarships or something that's about you.
Here's another idea. Have you heard of Bank of America's Abilities Scholarship Program? It provides monetary awards for students who are disabled, and learning disabilities count. And the Anne Ford Scholarship provides $10000 for a graduating high school senior also with a learning disability.
Then there is the Agee Memorial Dyslexia Scholarship Fund. I think Rosie O'Donnell and Whoopi Goldberg struggled with dyslexia.
I also like the Boulder County Force's Rachel Small Scholarship Fund for juggling - juggling a soccer ball with your feet, that is.
What Can Get You Scholarship? Take a few minutes to think about yourself. Write down your talents, interests, and experiences. If you have any work experience, write that down, too. Been in any clubs? Write it down.
Do you know any of your ancestors? Ask you parents or your grandparents. How are your grades? What about your test scores? Maybe you can retake the test.
Just coming up with a list like this will help you find more scholarships. Many scholarships go to people who fit the profile that the founders desired to reward.
Here's an interesting little hint, as well. Many people never look beyond the big name scholarships. You know, the Bill Gates Scholarship, the Rhodes, and the automatic ones at their university when they fill out their application and write their application essay.
What to do with Your List Go to your high school guidance office, or your university financial aid office with your list. As an alternative, you can check out one of the good scholarship search sites online.
Now start looking for scholarships that match your list. You only need to look at one at a time. If you have an interest in becoming a world famous taxidermist, great, start with that.
Write down or print out any scholarships that look like you will qualify. Then, go to the next item on your list. Keep going until you finish your list.
Next, start applying for those scholarships. And if the scholarship for being left handed isn't on the list, no problem. You've got so much more to offer!
