Using Pallets To Organise Your Warehouse
Although it seems that how you organise your warehouse or stock room is one of the less important aspects of running a business, this is frequently shown to be an incorrect assumption. Although when a venture starts up it can seem that keeping the stores neat and tidy will be an easy task, typically when business picks up and more stock comes in to keep up with the increasing demands, this falls by the wayside and suddenly the previously organised warehouse resembles a disaster area, where no one can find anything, stock is always being lost or damaged and staff injuries are far more frequent than anyone would like.
Though it may seem that the shelving units which were purchased from the local hardware store at the time of setting up the company will always be sufficient for the amount of stock your business is likely to keep, it is usually worth expanding upon this and having some other storage solutions in place such as pallets to be used as a backup or overflow for those busy periods where there will be too much in the way of stock to fit on the shelves and stock winds up on the floor.
This is a far more common than people expect in a warehouse; stock levels frequently exceed expectations and consequently, less than optimum storage solutions such as underneath shelving and on the floor end up being utilised, which is often considered a serious safety hazard, not to mention the decreasing level of tidiness and organisation that this causes can mean that stock taking becomes a much more difficult task. Pallets or similar additional storage solutions such as stillages can be the ideal alternative to this.
Purchasing some pallets to use either as an overflow or even as a primary storage solution can be an excellent aid to organisation. When items are stored correctly on a pallet they are easily viewable, meaning that you will always know what is on them, they are also easily relocated with the aid of a pallet truck, enabling you to move your stock around your warehouse and also easily move them to a lorry for dispatch.
An organised warehouse or stock room is an efficient one, and in this time of economic recession, efficiency is paramount to keeping your company competitive in the marketplace, and something as simple as purchasing some pallets is a very affordable and easy way to improve upon this, keeping your stock tidy, safe and even mobile if necessary.
