How to Get Sober and Stay that Way

You know as soon as you drink too much. Does drinking move in the way of relationships or cause career troubles or wide-ranging embarrassment for you and your relatives? Then you ought to probably quit and obtain a grip of the setback. There are some folks who are unable to quit drinking without qualified help, or the assistance of a program such as alcoholics anonymous. There are others who can accomplish this on their own through some fundamental behavior training. Here are some basic tips that will help you quit alcohol on your own.

If you stop by the Supermarket purchase alcohol on the way home from work, first habit to quit. For some people once they get home, they are just so satisfied and will not venture back out. Buy all of your shopping at once to avoid the need to go shopping on a daily basis. Go to places where you cannot drink, like the cinema, ice skating or why not, church. Make it routine to go to the gym right after work or if not possible, go home and work out to your favorite music instead. When in a social setting, don't associate with people who drink; talk to them, but don't agree to meet them at a local pub or club. While you may think this behavior will lead to the loss of friendships, those that really love and care about you will not abandon you and will do most anything to support you.

Do not frequent bars for a year or more. If you are on your own, try Internet dating or even coffee shops. It is so important to you stay away from places where people are drink alcohol for awhile. As far as dating is concerned, you should not have a serious relationship with anybody for awhile at least, unless you already have a partner. If you are in a precarious, relationship, I am sorry, but leave now. It will only lead to emotional behavior which will lead to drinking alcohol again. Eat loads of fruit and anything that contains fructose.

Look into the various drugs now on the market that can help you with the cravings you will feel when you quit drinking. It is especially important to consider taking some of these medications if you have already completely stopped consuming alcohol. There is Antabuse which will make you very sensitive to alcohol should you decide to drink it. Naltrexone can be used to help you reduce your cravings for alcohol and Acamprostate will help bring your brain back to normal after you have drunk large amounts of alcohol for a long period of time.

Decide why you need to drink. Keep a daily diary. Try and identify what it is that makes you avoid certain things in your life and turn to alcohol instead. Whatever these triggers are, stay away from them as much as possible. Forgive yourself and apologize to those you have harmed and/or offended along the way; your guilt will lessen and you will feel less likely to drown your sorrows in a drink.

Take it one step at a time: one day at a time, one week at a time. Don't say you'll never drink again- just realize that you have made a choice to be sober because of all the destruction in your life. Take vitamins and other health supplements to replenish your ravaged body. Vitamin B in particular, will help you avoid stress. If your life really depends on it, you can quit drinking if you set your mind to it! You, your friends and family will all be the better for it and in the end all those around you can help in making you feel fantastic for the first time in a long time. Do it today.
