Link Exchanges - Are They Worth It?
For those who own an online business or advertise their professional services through a website on the internet, promoting the presence of the site is a constant task. Traffic to the pages of the website is the way that many people generate revenue from their website, especially when the content is largely informational. While it is always a good idea for websites to be promoting themselves through social networking sites and bookmarking sites, these can be painstaking networks to grow organically. If you need a lot of traffic quickly, you may want to consider getting some help by using link exchanges.
Also referred to as banner exchanges, link exchanges are basically a joining together of websites into an organized unit that is connected together by displaying each other's banner ads. When you join a link exchange, you will be provided with html code from a central figure in the organization, often called the webmaster. When you install this code on your website, it will display a banned ad image that will link to the website of another member of the exchange. Likewise, your banner ad image will be displayed on the website of another member of the exchange.
While this method can be successful in creating many links to your website all across the internet at a very fast rate, there can also be some disadvantages of using this type of tactic for website marketing. If you are mostly interested in increasing the page rank of your website in the popular search engines, than a link exchange will probably suit your purposes, as the number of incoming links from other websites with similar content is a great way to move up the ranks of the search results. A disadvantage of using a link exchange service is that people are often tempted to leave the site they were originally looking for, before getting a chance to really explore it. If you are interested in gaining visitors that will click through several pages of your site, then link exchanges might be distracting.
Before joining up with a service and participating in link exchanges, take into consideration the size and speed of your website as it stands now. Adding several banner images will add some time onto the speed with which your site will load, depending on the connection type of your viewers. Also, only consider joining sites that let you choose the category of banner ads that your website will be displaying. That way, you can choose content that will complement your site.
