The city itself is small and compact which makes it a dream to navigate either by foot, bike or automobile.

While there are a number of comfortable hotels to choose from, one of the best ways to experience your Amsterdam vacation is by renting a holiday apartment. You are certain to find one of these lodging accommodations conveniently located close to all of the restaurants and shops that you want to explore.

The summer months are always a wonderful time to consider an Amsterdam vacation. The city is buzzing with exciting events and many entertaining concerts and activities are held under the open skies. There is a distinctly youthful feel to the community and people of all ages will enjoy the welcoming hospitality that residents cheerfully extend to their many visitors.

You might want to absorb some of the culture while on holiday in this city. There are a number of famous museums to visit. Almost all Amsterdam vacations should include at least one trip to the Van Gogh Museum or the Rijksmuseum. This Dutch city has more than 50 museums for you to tour and this list includes the more offbeat Hash Marihuana Museum.

Of course, most people have heard of the risque Red Light District where very open, liberal attitudes prevail. This remains one of the most famous tourist destinations for people who are enjoying a holiday in Amsterdam. The Red Light District also the home of Oude Kerk and many visitors travel here just to see some of the old buildings or tour the octagonal bell tower. Alcohol, drugs, prostitution, food, clubs and much more are all available in this "Party Central" location, but remember that no photography is allowed.

Some of the other sights that are popular include the Dam Square, the Royal Palace and Beginjhof. Amsterdam vacation packages would not seem to be fully complete without a canal tour. There are so many lovely canals in the city that many people refer to Amsterdam as being the "Venice of the North". The main four canals are Singel, Prinsengracht, Keizersgracht and Herengracht, but there are others in Jordaan which are also very popular.

The Magere Brug is a big tourist attraction, and it is arguably the most well known of the nearly 1300 bridges in the city. This double drawbridge extends over the banks of the Amstel and has a history that dates back for more than 300 years. This drawbridge is also called the "Skinny Bridge" and visitors are sure to see it being raised and lowered many times during their stay.

Jordaan is an Amsterdam neighborhood where you will find interesting architecture, pleasant streets, art galleries and cafes. This is a very low key community that is fun to visit and you can find a number of holiday apartments for rent in, or near, this location.

Rembrandtplein Square is a magnet for tourists and residents alike. There are plenty of Dutch pubs, cafes, night clubs and even diamond dealers all headquartered in this area. There are terraces on which you can sit and enjoy watching the city as you dine. If you want to hear some authentic Dutch music this is definitely one of the places to visit.
