Denver Broncos Tickets - Training Camp Eventful for Broncos
Prior to this season, the Denver Broncos didn't have many surprises at training camp. They had a level-headed coach, Mike Shanahan, from 1995 to 2008, who seemed to keep a lot of drama out of Denver. This year is different. The Broncos fired Shanahan after a disappointing season in 2008 and hired young coach Josh McDaniels from the New England Patriots to replace him. McDaniels had a run-in with Pro Bowl quarterback Jay Cutler, leading to Cutler being traded to the Chicago Bears for high draft picks and quarterback Kyle Orton.
Fans expressed their displeasure of having Orton as the starting quarterback at this year's training camp when they booed Orton during a scrimmage where he threw two interceptions along with other bad passes. There was more pressure than usual for the Broncos team this training camp. It is their first ever training camp at INVESTCO Field at Mile High, and they had a record-high 13,402 fans in attendance.
Jay Cutler had been with the Broncos since he started his NFL career in 2006. He started every game in 2007 and 2008. Last season, he had 4,526 yards, 25 touchdowns, 18 interceptions and a passer rating of 86.0. Kyle Orton played backup to Rex Grossman for most of his career with Chicago. Grossman's frequent injuries, however, meant that he saw a lot of playing time. Last season, he won the starting job from Grossman and shows that he was a starting-caliber talent. He started all but one game and had 2,972 yards, 18 touchdowns, 12 interceptions and a passer rating of 79.6. Another positive aspect of Orton that isn't measured in his stats is the positive attitude he brings to the team. McDaniels didn't seem upset by the boos Orton received and still stood behind his pick.
One of the most important parts of the Cutler-Orton trade was the draft picks that Denver picked up in the deal. The trade gave them two picks in the first round, which they used on running back Knowshon Moreno and linebacker/defensive end Robert Ayers. The team has already inked a deal with Ayers, locking him in for five years. Ayers is expected to add needed flexibility to the Broncos defense with his ability to play on and off the line. The Tennessee standout led his team in tackles his final two years with the team.
Knowshon Moreno is the last unsigned draft pick for the Broncos. Reports say that Moreno is close to a deal, and the Broncos are likely looking to lock him in before the preseason starts. The pick of Moreno comes after trouble during the 2008 season for the Broncos where they went through a staggering number of injuries at running back. Moreno hails from the University of Georgia, where he averaged 105.2 rushing yards per game. The Broncos start their season on August 14 on the road against the San Francisco 49ers. That game will give fans a chance to see what many of the new players are capable of this season. Fans will want to be there this season and can get Denver Broncos tickets online.
