Visiting Friends With Your New Baby

By Kyle Newton

Once you have your baby the days of visiting family and friends without planning are gone. Planning is essential when traveling around town with an infant. But being prepared can make sure that the short trips as well as long stays are comfortable for both you and the baby.

Your diaper bag will be your most powerful weapon. During pregnancy you no doubt received countless baby cakes. These diaper cakes were filled with small blankets, toys, bottles, pacifiers, and other supplies. Finally, all this new loot was encased in walls of diapers. Grabbing a few things from this will easily stock your diaper bag.

Make sure to include toys as part of your baby survival kit. Many mothers overlook the need for their child to have toys to play with when they are an infant. Also make sure you have anything that keeps your child happy at home.

Include their favorite blanket, boppy pillow, or that special stuffed animal. For overnight visits it is usually appropriate to bring a collapsable swing and/or play pen. After all, if you are staying overnight or for a weekend, you cannot be expected to hold the baby that entire time.

Portable baby furniture will ensure that you actually spend time with your family and friends and do not become one of those mothers that cannot hold a conversation for being attached to their baby. These are the same mothers that have embroidered backpacks for their baby.

Visiting family and friends with your mobile poop maker can be tricky in terms of safety. Hygiene and cleanliness are important wherever you go, but in this case I am referring to stairs, glass vases, chemicals, and medications that people without children do not have to keep put away in their own home.

Most people will know you are visiting with your baby and take some basic precautions, but do a once over and politely suggest that the crystal vase on the coffee table be put on the shelf if your baby is crawling age. Asking will be less of an issue than if your baby breaks it and gets injured. Bringing a baby folding gate and a few outlet covers will save your hosts a lot of trouble.

Stick the baby gate in front of any stairs. Make sure to bring the kind that have an easily opened door in the center so your hosts are not restricted in their own homes. Keep embroidered baby gifts and baby bloomers out of the way so they do not get in the way of your hosts.

Visiting with your baby does not have to be a hassle. Making use of things you were given, like diaper cakes and carting a few things along with you will make sure visits are smooth. Remember that embroidered baby gifts are best saved for pictures. Travel with utility clothes.
