Are Electronic Cigarettes A Threat To Public Safety
In 2004, a group in China developed the electronic cigarette. Runyan Corp created this device to take away the need to smoke traditional cigarettes. The thing is, many smokers find it too hard to quit smoking, but we find increasing bans against smoking in public places. Nicotine replacement solutions are all over the market.
They have gum and patches, but you cannot smoke those. People seem to be as addicted to the act of smoking as to the nicotine in the cigarettes. The amazing thing about electronic cigarettes is that the goal is to deliver nicotine and to totally replicate the experience of smoking traditional cigarettes and cigars.
Electronic cigarettes have the appearance of a traditional cigarette as well as a traditional feel. They have a cartridge that serves as a mouthpiece, an atomizer, a battery, and an LED light at the end of the device. The LED light is activated when you take a drag to replicate the drag you take off of a normal cigarettes.
When you take a drag, the atomizer vaporizes a small amount of nicotine and water vapor that you breathe in. You exhale only water vapor, but it appears like cigarette smoke as another part of the smoking replication. The look and feel of the process is designed to effect you just like a cigarette as well. The nicotine hits your brain immediately just as if you were smoking tobacco cigarettes.
There are electronic cigarettes in a number of shapes, colors, and flavors. Some electronic cigarettes resemble pens, and others look like a regular cigarette. The flavors are almost unlimited. They range from tobacco flavors, menthol, mint, chocolate, and fruit flavors.
New flavors are developed as time goes by, expanding your options. The cartridges also have different levels of nicotine in them. There are regular strength, mediums, and lights as well as cartridges that have no nicotine at all.
As to the safety and legal concerns surrounding electronic cigarettes, there is some debate. The media is doing a horrible job of sorting fact from fiction. While electronic cigarettes are available online and in mall kiosks, the FDA has not approved them, nor do they endorse them.
They are not considered smoking sensation devices, but are sold as alternatives to cigarettes. No research has made any claim that they are unsafe. Some European countries have deemed electronic cigarettes to be a benifit to the public, so opinions will vary.
