What looks like a cigarette, feels like a cigarette, smokes like a cigarette, but is not bad for you? It is an electronic cigarette of course. It has no tobacco and none of the many carcinogens that traditional cigarettes contain.
It is marketed as an alternative to smoking and a way around the public smoking bans that have become so popular. They were made by a company in China a few years back and have been growing in popularity ever since.
Scott Fraser, Vice President of SBT Co. Ltd., which was the firm in Beijing that developed this amazing technology said, "The nicotine is delivered to the lungs within 7-10 seconds,"
He told Reuters, "It feels like a cigarette, looks like a cigarette, it even emits vapor. In many ways, it is like an actual smoking experience, and that's what makes us different,".
The electronic cigarette exploded in popularity in Europe and is gaining speed quickly in the United States, picking up press both positive and negative. Politicians have weighed in, but the most convincing arguments come from electronic cigarette smokers themselves. Smokers are overwhelmed by how well electronic cigarettes replicate the smoking experience.
Competitors to the original product are everywhere, so companies are striving to create the best electronic cigarette they can. The electronic cigarette also has some competition from smoking cessation products like gum and patches.
The financial windfall these have created should have tobacco companies nervous. Once a smoker makes the initial investment in the kit, they find that electronic cigarette smoking is far cheaper than lighting up packs of traditional cigarettes.
The system these companies has perfected has helped many smokers make the transition into a non smoking world. Nurses who now work in facilities where the parking lot is not even available for smoking find that the electronic cigarette helps them focus on their patients.
This technology, spreading out from China has surprised the market. Smokers find that the battery contained in the electronic cigarettes beats searching for a lighter.
The public is also very excited about the ability to smoke in public places that were once off limits to their nicotine habit. The best part is that electronic cigarettes contain almost none of the carcinogens of traditional cigarettes and no tobacco. They also come in some striking flavors from tobacco that tastes like cigarettes, menthol, and even chocolate. There are fruit flavors as well, and new flavors are being developed consistantly.
