Tips To Helping A New Mother

By Kyle Newton
Sep 18, 2009
You will find that many new mothers have everything ready ahead of time for the hospital visit and bringing the baby home, but many mothers are overwhelmed by all the things the baby will need. If you know the gender of the baby you can help the mother get things ready. If not, you can still help, but will have to be gender non-specific in your assistance. Things like an outfit for the baby to go home in or a recieving blanket can be important items. Try finding embroidered baby gifts that are more keepsake for photos.

Sometimes new mothers will over dress their new baby in ill fitting or uncomfortable clothes without knowing it. Dressing your baby in simple items will make changing and care less stressful and keep your baby comfortable and happy. This is an important time to reduce stress. You can find monogrammed baby products in comfortable fabrics online.

Setting up going home pictures for the mother is another good idea. It is advised that even then, the baby should be wearing soft comfortable clothes. A few good examples include a baby gown, in short or long sleeves, or a simple t-shirt and diaper with their blanket wrapped around them. A little hat or beanie can be added if you feel the need to be cute. The hospital can also give you some ointment to attach a bow to the head of your baby.

The trip home is another place you can help and is vitally important. Help the couple pick out an infant car seat that holds babies under 20 pounds. A baby should never ride in a car without a proper seat that is properly restrained. This makes it difficult when the mother rides a bus. Most busses do not have proper seat belts. Taxis are sometimes a good option.

When the baby gets home, what is waiting on them. Sneak into your friends house and have a few custom diaper cakes sitting on their table. The store might also know these as baby cakes. They are one of the most useful gifts you can give to new parents. Another fun thing is original personalized baby gifts that are specific to their child. It shows you care.

When the parents arrive home, they will likely be very tired. Hopefully their friends are around to help them or their family. This can help remove some of the worries the parents have about taking care of their first child before becoming familiar with this new member of the family.

The hormones is the mother will be up and down and all over the place after delivery. She will be in a weepy mood or angry for no reason. Help watch out for things like post partum depression. It can show itself as fear to touch the baby or just being overly depressed. Suggest that the father call the family doctor if you see such signs.

The first few days will be difficult even with help. Fortunately you are there for her with fun gifts like your diaper cakes (baby cakes) and help with changing and feeding until the mother recovers.
