How to Replace a Watch Battery
Did your favorite watch stop ticking? With all that we have going on in the world today, losing our sense of time is one hassle we can do without. Luckily for you, this quick and easy guide will help you replace your watch battery, so you can go on with your life. Just follow these simple steps and youll be fine.
Step 1: Place the watch, face down, on a soft surface such as a towel. Inspect the rear of the casing, and find a tab-like indentation near the rear-edge of the cover. Use a tool with a wedge-head, something dull, like a butter knife or screwdriver. Shimmy the wedge into the back of the indentation. Youre trying to pry it open. NOTE: If there is no tab-like indentation, then hold the watch with a vise and stick the tool into a point where the rear cover meets the watch casing, then wedge it in, tapping it with a rubber mallet.
Step 2: When you get the tab open, check to see if the battery is held in place by a bracket. If so, unscrew it by using a mini-screwdriver from an eyeglass repair kit.
Step 3: Once you can see there is nothing holding the battery back from its release, simply flip the watch around and tap it lightly so the battery will fall out. Dont pry it out. You can damage the internals of the watch by tinkering around.
Step 4: Stick the new battery into the old battery's position and replace anything that held it there. Realign the back cover and slide the cover opposite the tab-like indentation back into the casing. Now press the whole back shell together until it snaps. Congratulations! You're done!
This is an easy process when it comes down to it, but you must realize that certain watches cannot be operated on at home and must be taken to a jeweler for battery replacement. Waterproof watches are vacuum-sealed and any tampering with them may destroy the waterproofing. Also, high-dollar watches should always be brought to a jeweler, because youd hate to ruin an expensive watch.
