How Advertising For Others Can Make You Money

By Scott Lindsay

You've been reading up on how to advertise your budding new business online, but have you yet decided on a strategy? Have you been successful in your venture and want to expand? At home business owners are more likely than others to be aware of the advertising needs of small businesses. If you are able to successfully market your own product, what is stopping you from marketing for other clients?

There are a few things to consider before pursuing this line of business. For a start, what if an online campaign you create for a client is not successful?

There are never any guarantees that a new business will be successful. The business idea may be based on a product nobody wants. Or it could be a seasonal product offered at the wrong time - like selling fresh cut Christmas trees in the middle of June.

Consider though, how the customer is likely to feel if the campaign they paid for does not create sales growth in their business. Are they going to blame the business idea they worked so hard on as being bad or ill timed, or are they going to blame you for doing a poor job at advertising? The latter situation is more likely.

You may overcome this scenario by ensuring that your terms of service state that there is no guarantee or typical outcome. By using your own careful judgment as to which clients to work with and which ones to turn away you may reduce your risks of trying to sell a lemon. Still, you may encounter hard feelings whenever an advertising campaign fails.

Another issue to consider would be a potential conflict with your own business. Would you feel comfortable advertising your direct competition? What of the ethics question? To successfully advertise a business is likely to require you to know a lot about them. Would the possession of that knowledge compromise your integrity?

Finally there may be limitations as to how many advertisements can be posted in a particular online location, in any given period of time by any particular unique IP Address. Attempts to place them more frequently, even for differing businesses may get all of the ads removed and your account suspended or even banned. A wide variety of sources for ads would be needed if you became successful, to overcome this situation.

If you feel you can overcome or work within these limitations and problems, and you have successfully managed to sell your own brand, then advertising your own marketing or advertising service may well work for you.

What kind of services will you be able to offer? Anything that has worked for you will be a good start, though it will need to be targeting more specifically to the kind of market you are trying to reach. This will involve asking questions and learning about the client's business so you are properly able to write about it in articles and adverts.

Between both online and offline classified adverts, forum signature links and advertising posts, SEO and keyword articles and the careful use of mailing lists you can help another business become a success.
