Before considering what the Jeet Kune Do techniques are, you must know that there are basically two different systems from Jeet Kune Do. The first is the original Jeet Kune Do techniques and then we also have the Jeet Kune Do techniques concepts. Do describe what Jeet Kune Do techniques are, we'll stick to the first and original Jeet Kune Do system.

The Jeet Kune Do techniques provides a science of combat fighting that uses the quickest and most efficient means to defeat your opponent. It is not a sport. The Jeet Kune Do techniques can relate to your life as much as it does to combat. It uses the idea of opposites, yin and yang, complimenting each other to achieve your goals.

The Jeet Kune Do techniques are best understood when you look at the translation of it. It means, "The way of the intercepting fist or foot". It teaches you that your opponent is the most vulnerable at the point where he is busy attaching, and this leaves a perfect chance for you to strike. With instinct and practice, you will be able to use the Jeet Kune Do techniques to intercept a punch by your opponent by striking his arm, instead of just defending against it. Another important aspect is in your choice of which weapon (or limb) to intercept with. You will always use the longest weapon that is closet to your target. You attack their attack. For you to achieve this easily, you'll first need to learn the scientific art of the Jeet Kune Do techniques.

It starts with practicing it over and over with someone, until your body starts automatically reacting to the attacks. When sparring you develop a sense of how to react to your opponent. The ultimate aim is for you to react to your attacker to exploit their weaknesses. This enables you to achieve your goal by being able to hit them. Always be aware though that every opponent is different, and don't think of Jeet Kune Do as a style, but rather a way to learn about your opponent. Don't plan a fight, learn about your opponent.

The interception idea sounds very simple, but it takes a lot of practice to be able to do the Jeet Kune Do techniques fluently and instinctively.
