Home Office Decorating

Aug 18, 2007
If you are a striving businessman, then a home office can be a room in your house that holds a lot of importance. It can be either used as a business center or a hideaway, therefore try and make it attractive, functional yet comfortable. It might not be easy to decorate a home office and so there are few things that you should keep in mind before you start. Before you start any work in your home office you will have to pre-determine the purpose for which you will be using it.

Will it be a place strictly meant for work or will it also be used as a spare bedroom from time to time? If you are trying to turn a spare room into your office, then make sure that everything is in place. The very first thing you need to make sure is that there are electrical outlets and telephone jacks. If you are intending to set up electrical devices and a computing system then there should be more than one or two electrical outlets. It will not be a good idea to plug in too many devices into one outlet because it can lead to safety hazards.

You can arrange the room in L or U shape because this shape will give you access to almost all the materials in the room. A computer armoire is popular and important home office furniture. This can be a very good idea if you want to avoid your office looking like a business center. If you have an armoire then you can keep the computer inside and close the door once you are done with your work. In this way, your home office will look tidy and neat. Make sure that your work area has proper lighting because one wrong choice could ruin everything.

To create the ambience, have ceiling lights as well as desk lamps for your office. For lights on the ceiling you should fix a dimmer switch, which will also help you save on your power bills. If you will be using the office regularly, then buy a chair that is very comfortable so that you can sit and work for hours at a stretch. It will be a good idea to purchase a chair that swivels so that you can move around easily when you need to access things around you.

Storage space is another major consideration when you are decorating your home office. You can have nothing worse than an office that is messy and cluttered because there is no space for storage. You can change the look and feel of your home office dramatically if you remove the clutter. There should be storage space for files, office equipment and supplies. You can also make an effort and create storage solutions that can double the focal design points. For instance, use a roll top desk for a more personal touch rather than an ordinary computer table.

In order to enhance the interiors of your office space you can select god and comfortable furniture pieces instead of stark office equipments. Wire file baskets, stackable wicker can be used in place of an impersonal metal filing cabinet. Play around and get decorative utility items like wastebaskets for personalizing the complete look of the interiors.
