Budgeting For Baby Made Easy

By Kyle Newton

There is no way to be financially prepared for a baby, but there are ways you can make the transition easier by getting your budget in order. Concentrate on your savings first. Paying yourself by paying into your savings account before you pay other bills is a way of ensuring your financial growth. Many people find that if their savings account is the last thing they pay, impulsive purchases mean there is very little left to go into it.

Most savings options allow you to choose the day and automatic withdrawal will come from your checking account. Scatter the days on the calendar so that you do not have to pay these accounts at the same time. At the same time take days throughout the month to pay down bills when you are not paying into your savings account or other expenses.

While you are pregnant and saving money do not forget to throw a baby shower. Many parents find that a large portion of their shopping list is cleared during such an event. Gift cards, baby cakes, and diaper receptacles all cost money. Even those guests who bring packages of diapers lower your spending. Some parents find that between the baby shower and putting aside about $40 each week to buy basic clothes and stock up on diapers makes a big difference in their spending after the baby comes. Leave embroidered baby gifts and personalized toddler gifts for the baby shower.

While you are pregnant, accept the help of your family. Use the time you are pregnant to clear up monthly financial burdens as you can. You will be pregnant for nine months. If your car is a year from being paid off, try paying it off before you deliver. This several hundred dollars less you spend each month by having no car payment will help a great deal once the baby becomes a real expense. Do not feel bad relying on those diaper cakes. Baby cakes generally have all the small basics you need. Baby bloomers and other original personalized baby gifts will pile up so your child will probably have lots of clothes.

Make sure to sign up for baby related offers at local retailers. Many stores offer gift bags to ladies who sign up for registries and newsletters. Also check out the websites of diaper and baby food companies. A lot of them have new mother gift boxes they send out free.

The last and maybe most helpful suggestion I can give you is to start a change jar. Choose one that has a large body and narrow neck so that you cannot stick your hand into it. Drop in your loose change each day. You will be surprised how quickly it fills and how much you actually save.
