The Right Massage Table Comfort Accessories: 5 Suggestions For The Serious Professional

Massage tables are the bread and butter for massage therapists of course: a massage table is their version of an executive desk, office, and laboratory, all rolled into one.

But serious professional massage therapists know that providing a good solid table is only the beginning when it comes to giving their clients the very best in comfort in convenience. It is the choice of accessories to go along with the basic table that turns the acceptable into the exceptional. If you are a serious massage professional, here are 5 comfort accessories your table should never be without.

1. Face Rest

It's hard to imagine getting a good night's sleep lying flat on the mattress without a nice comfy pillow, isn't it? When a client lies on your table, you want them to feel at home and enjoy the same types of comfortable positions they are used to: this means providing their face and head with soft and gentle support while your fingers do magic on the rest of them.

There are many kinds of face rests on the market and all have different attractive features as well as prices ranging from the low to the very high. Do you use a stationary or portable table? Make sure you choose a face rest that is suitable for what you use. Because every client is different, adjustable face rests are optimal: just make sure to keep a supply of disposable face rest pad covers on hand for cleanliness and hygiene purposes. A good face rest is the ultimate when it comes to massage table accessories.

2. Arm Supports

Just as a client needs soft support for her face, she also needs to have a convenient place to put her arms during her massage. Arm supports rest upon and are attached at the bottom to the table frame. Aluminum bars connect the supports to the underside of the table, just below the pad.

A client who is having her upper back and shoulders worked on can comfortably relax by putting her arms forward, beside and just under her face without worrying about their getting in the way. Arm supports are convenient for therapists too since they offer easier access to a client's upper body; the support may also be used by a therapist to rest her elbows on while perform a head massage.

3. Massage Bolsters

For many clients, getting a massage is a new experience and they have a hard time getting comfortable no matter how thick your pad is! Some clients have physical restrictions such as obesity, disabilities, or pregnancies that make it extremely hard for them to negotiate their way around a table.

Massage bolsters are firm padded pillows in shapes such as crescents, cylinders, half-cylinders, and rounded-top squares that provide a little extra support where clients need it most. Offering cradling support for clients' hips, knees, and ankles, bolsters act as extra "hands and arms" for therapists and are indispensable additions to a professional's massage table accessories collection.

If you equip yourself properly to help your clients feel completely relaxed and comfortable during their massages, they will visit again and again: the right massage table accessories will make all the difference.
