Wedding Entertainment: Keeping Everyone Happy Is Child's Play

On your big day, the wedding entertainment you choose is all-important to guarantee your guests remember the evening for years to come.

Of course, it's difficult to cater for everyone's tastes and there's only so much you can do to please your guests, but do try to keep in mind the different ages and requirements of your party.

Children are excited by weddings, but often become bored when the wedding entertainment isn't to their tastes. No one wants to ban children from a wedding; this will annoy and inconvenience guests with children and besides, they often provide a welcome distraction before the alcohol has started flowing and everyone is getting on like a house on fire.

It makes sense to go the extra mile so that children and their parents can both enjoy themselves, because if the children don't have anything to engage them and become bored, this has the knock-on effect of giving parents a large dose of stress, because the kids love to pester and demand entertainment and attention.

Consider setting aside a table just for the children and have them all sitting together. They'll make new friends and create their own entertainment. You can provide props for them; maybe place a paper tablecloth over the table along with colouring pens and let them doodle away to their heart's content. The novelty factor of being allowed to doodle on the tablecloth will provide great entertainment.

If you've the time, set up a treasure hunt. It'll keep them occupied for a while which parents will be grateful for. And why not have some face paints on the table too and let them get creative?

If you're having a DJ as your wedding entertainment, consider the oldies who may be at your do and make sure there is a mix of music played - a few tunes from each decade - to get everyone warmed up and dancing.

You might like to try something different or unusual too for wedding entertainment. You can hire a magician to perform at your reception; everyone loves a good trick, especially after a few drinks, and it will be a hit with the children too.

You could get a caricaturist to produce caricatures of your guests which is bound to give everyone a good giggle.

A chocolate fountain always goes down well. You can hire a huge one for around 400 pounds with all the goodies, and someone to operate it included. You can even have it instead of a wedding cake if you like. Just be careful that any children attending don't stuff too much down and make themselves ill!
