Niche Marketing Tips for Profits

By Christopher Freville
Sep 23, 2009
In the world of marketing, a niche is nothing less than a product or service for which there is a particular area of demand. In essence it is a specialty, targeting an unmet customer need through innovative thinking. A good website can, in fact, create a whole new niche.

First you will have detected some kind of need, of course. When you have a basic idea, do further research. This means looking up relevant keywords, most effectively using a keyword analyzer. You need to find out how much competition there is in the niche, and visit the websites of various competitors to make a thorough assessment. Look out especially for areas of the niche that are undervalued or under-used. Then exploit it.

If you want success in any niche market, intelligence and shrewdness will be essential. Remember, your goal is to offer something unique. A profitable niche market will be one where you can both enjoy great profits and avoid being drawn into competition with powerful large corporations.

So let's begin at the beginning. There are countless niches just waiting to be chosen and exploited. Your job is to zoom in one that doesn't already come with a lot of competition attached so that you can jump right into the marketing. We've given you some tips - use them.

1. Idea is key. If you decide on a topic that already excites you, this is most advantageous: for example, you will write better articles for your niche and the more motivated you will be to work hard at it.

2. Research on keywords. Keywords tell you what, exactly, people are looking for on the internet, and useful statistics like how frequently those are used. Google's free keyword tool is excellent. Just type in a keyword and you'll get a body of statistics of keyword search usage. You can also find out how competitive the niche market arising from any keyword is. The more specific your target is for a niche market, the less likely you are to be faced immediately with tough, constant competition.

3. Decided on your niche? Now it's time to start promoting it. This is best achieved if you can prove yourself to be knowledgeable and trustworthy - an authoritative figure. Spend time talking to people on forums within the niche you mean to target. You need to be a one-person FAQ and resource. Once you know all the answers, put together a solid website or write a book on the subject. If the book sells well, you have a winner on your hands.

4. The initial stage of research should end here. Don't forget that you need to ensure that your niche is a truly profitable one!

Last but certainly not the least: Never make the fundamental mistake of trying to enter a niche that you know has high competition or low demand already. You need to go for a niche with low competition and high demand. It is also essential that you maintain a level of patience at all times, and that you diversify and multiply when and as you can. If there is a secret to successful Internet Marketing, that's probably it. Good luck!
