What Do I Have To Give My Driver At Pickup?
Every courier company is going to have slightly different regulations about exactly what their drivers need when they come to pick up a package. You should be able to get these guidelines from your Chicago courier service at any time, or you should be able to easily look them up on their company's website without a great deal of difficulty. However, almost every company is going to want you to have a few things ready for when the driver gets there. The most important of these is obviously going to be your package itself, and it is important to be sure that you've packed and labeled it correctly so that there is no hold up when the driver shows up to pick up the package. You might also need to have any shipping forms the company requires filled out and ready for the driver pick up, but this is one of those things that can differ from company to company, as well as being dependent on what you are shipping and to where, as international shipments often need more accompanying paperwork than domestic shipments.
Sometimes you have to have paperwork ready that states your account and identifies you as the account holder so that the driver can verify that your shipment will be billed to the correct account by the courier company, but technology is making this sort of thing less and less necessary. There are courier companies now that allow you to easily print a bar coded shipping label online which when scanned will provide the driver with all of the information they need about who you are and to which account to bill your shipment.
The one thing that you need to do to ensure a smooth pickup is to review the packing and labeling rules that your courier company has in place. If these aren't posted on their website, their drivers should be more than willing to provide you with a list of their rules if you request one from the company directly. These typically include things which are designed to protect you and your package when shipping with a courier, so it pays to follow them. They might include only shipping in boxes that have one label or address of any kind visible, and ensuring that anything over a certain weight has been packed in a double box. Drivers can refuse your package if it is not packed correctly, so take the time to do so.
