No One Needs A Conveyor With Online Media
More and more magazine, newspapers and other articles which once would have been printed on paper are now being published online, which in turn has had a negative effect on the conveyor market.
Conveyor belts have been around for a significant amount of time. The initial design was made just after the turn of the 1900's. It wasn't long before people saw the potential that a belt system could have on their industries.
It wasn't long before belts were being installed in the coal mines in an attempt to help remove the coal from the mines with greater ease. It helped to revolutionise the industry and made it a lot quicker and easier for mines to get the product from out of the mine to the surface.
The conveyor belt has also been used in the motor industry to great effect. Henry Ford was one of the first to utilise the conveyor belt assembly lines in 1913 and it is a technology that is still utilised today with all the main manufacturers having production lines for their cars.
Conveyor belts have also been utilised in the printing industry as large quantities on newspapers, magazines and leaflets whizz across busy warehouses before being stacked into piles ready for distribution.
But for how much longer will that be the case for the printed press? Magazine and newspapers are turning to the internet in an effort to reach a larger audience and reduce running costs. Obviously running costs will be reduced if the publications went online as there would be less money spent on paper, distribution, and production cost. At the same time the income generated will also fall because of a lack of consumer consumption. However, the money obtained through sponsorship or sponsors would likely remain the same or possible increase depending on the popularity of the publication.
What does the future hold for magazine publication? According to sources, magazines in the future will consist of a one page tablet. The user will then be able to use the tablet to scroll through to the next page of the magazine with the simple click of a button. Trials of this new technology have been taking place in America at present and the feedback it has been receiving has been positive.
The data is stored on a data chip like an SD card for a camera and this is inserted into the tablet to display the content on the screen. Obviously at present this isn't a cost effective solution, but with technology advancing all the time how long will it be before we see these forms of technologies used.
It will always depend on what consumers prefer, I think it can be nice to stop staring at a screen for five minutes and relax with a magazine, but who knows what the future holds.
