Boston Red Sox Playoff Tickets - Possible Playoff Matchups
The Boston Red Sox are looking good heading down the stretch. They have the wild card lead and they're not likely to give it up before the regular season ends in early October. In fact, as of September 12th, 2009, the Red Sox have a nice 2.5 game lead over the next best playoff team, Texas. Is it too early to start thinking about the possible playoff matchups that the Red Sox could face when they enter the postseason? Never! Let's have a look at a couple of the most likely matchups as the Boston Red Sox travel through the postseason and, hopefully, on to a world championship. Don't forget to knock on wood and purchase your Boston Red Sox playoff tickets online, where you can get seats to the game even when it sells out!
Division Series - The Red Sox are currently lined up to face the Los Angeles Angels in the first round of the playoffs, the Division Series. The Angels are currently leading the Rangers in the NL West, but it's pretty close out there, with only five games separating the two. It's still a safe bet to say that the Red Sox will face the Angels in their first playoff series, though as of right now (September 12) the Angels have a significant lead over the other division leader, Detroit, and the Angels are probably not going to overtake the Yankees for the best record in the league.
The Red Sox will love playing the Angels, even if they don't have home field advantage since they're the Wild Card team. Last season Boston beat Anaheim in the division series, and back in 2007 they also beat Anaheim in their division series. This year in the regular season the Red Sox actually have a losing record to the Angels. They are 2-4 against L.A. with a 24-31 run differential. But, as we all know, the playoffs are a different kind of beast.
Championship Series - In the possible American League Championship Series the Red Sox would play the winner of the Detroit-New York series. New York will be the heavy favorite in that series, as they own a 5-1 record against the Tigers in the regular season (30-15 run differential). The Red Sox have actually played well against the Yankees this year, as they have a 9-6 record vs. New York. The run differential is close, with Boston winning barely 92-85. Against Detroit the Red Sox are even better, though. They've played the Tigers seven times this season and they've won six of those games, plus they've outscored the Tigers 42-32 this year.
World Series - The Red Sox have not had the experience with some of the top tier NL teams that they would like to have, but it would be interesting to see the Dodgers face the Red Sox, because that would mean Boston would probably have to go through two L.A. teams on the way to the title. Also, the Manny Ramirez and Joe Torre story lines would run rampant. It would certainly be a series worth watching.
So there you have it, a few of the most likely matchups and what they could entail for fans who come out to see the Boston Red Sox's playoff games. Make sure you get tickets before they are all gone!
