Los Angeles Angels Playoff Tickets - Possible Playoff Matchups
The Los Angeles Angels look like they're headed to the postseason. So long as they can keep their composure in the remaining few weeks of the regular season and stay ahead of the American League West they'll make a trip to the playoffs and give their fans a chance to purchase Los Angeles Angels playoff tickets. If we look into the future, can we see any potential playoff matchups that look promising for the Angels? Are there any matchups that don't look ideal to Anaheim fans? Before you go out to get tickets to the home playoff games online, take a minute to ponder the potential matchups the Angels will face when they're hitting for a chance to get to the World Series. Remember to knock on wood after you read this article, though, as we wouldn't want to talk about the playoffs too soon and jinx the Angels before they can even get a postseason run going.
Division Series - As of September 12, 2009 the Angels are looking at a first round matchup with the Boston Red Sox. This is not very good news for Angels fans, unless you're concerned with exacting revenge. Most Angels fans are well aware that they've been dismissed from the playoffs on several occasions in the past few years at the hands of the Boston Red Sox, and the postseason series between these two teams has not been very close. Out of the last 10 playoff games between Boston and Anaheim, the Angels have won only one game. However, if the Tigers somehow catch the Angels in the regular season, and the Angels have to play the top-seeded (presumably) New York Yankees, things would be a little different. The Angels won four of the six games they played against the Yankees this season.
Championship Series - Assuming the Angels play the Red Sox in the first round, they'll likely be playing either the New York Yankees or the Detroit Tigers the Championship Series. Like we mentioned above, the Angels actually have a good record against the Yankees this season, and they've outscored New York by a combined run total of 50-39. Although it's also likely that the Yankees will have home field advantage, the Angels have to like their chances with New York. Against Detroit in 2009 the Angels are 4-5 with a 47-49 run differential.
World Series - Wouldn't it be nice if the Angels played the Dodgers in the World Series. It would be the Freeway Series, a Los Angeles fest for the ages! The Dodgers and the Angels actually played each other this season six times, and they spit the overall season series 3-3. The Angels and Dodgers were quite competitive, as their run differential was 29-28, the Angels having the slight advantage. This would be a very entertaining series, especially if you come from Southern California. The Angels also played the Colorado Rockies this regular season and won their series 2-1. The Angels did not play Philadelphia or St. Louis this year.
So there you have it, the most interesting possible matchups for the Angels when they enter the postseason. Will they overcome the teams who have given them trouble in the past? Will new rivalries form? All will be answered in the next few weeks.
