Philadelphia Phillies Playoff Tickets - Possible Playoff Matchups
The Philadelphia Phillies seem destined for the playoffs. They enjoy a huge lead in their division, the NL East, and if everything goes according to plan the Phillies should be playing some October baseball. Given the relative certainty that the Phillies will make the playoffs, is it safe to start making some comments, maybe even some predictions about their possible playoff matchups? Would it be too big of a jinx to look ahead at the teams the Phillies could play when they're in the postseason? Never! Just make sure you knock on wood while you're reading. Also, make sure to go online to find Philadelphia Phillies playoff tickets and get you into the game even when it's sold out. Now let's take a look at some of the potential opponents the Phillies will face.
Division Series - The Phillies have a nice lead over the Florida Marlins in the NL East, and they don't look like they're going to give up any ground as the season winds to a close. However, the Phillies trail both of the other National League division leaders, St. Louis and Los Angeles, by a couple of games. They also trail the probable wild card team, the Colorado Rockies. So the Phillies are looking at a No. 4 seed in the playoffs. They will likely play the Dodgers or Cardinals in the first round. The Phillies would probably prefer to play the Cardinals, as they have a 4-1 record vs. St. Louis in their 2009 season series. Against L.A. the Phillies have not fared as well. In the L.A.-Philadelphia season series the Phillies lost 3-4. The series was close, though, as the run differential was only one point (25 for Philadelphia and 26 for L.A.). The run differential for the St. Louis season series was highly in favor of the Phillies as the Cardinals were outscored 24-40. Of course, the Phillies had to beat L.A. to get to the World Series last season, so they might be able to do it again this year.
Championship Series - Having already discussed the other options for a Division Series, the only two logical opponents the Phillies might face are the Colorado Rockies or the San Francisco Giants, assuming they make the wild card spot and then get past their first round opponent. The Phillies beat the Rockies in their division series four games to two, but lost to the Giants in their season series three games to four.
World Series - If the Phillies get to the playoffs, they'll face either the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Angels, Boston Red Sox or Detroit Tigers. The Phillies did not play the Angels or Tigers this season, but they lost a series to the Red Sox 1-2 and won a series against the Yankees 2-1.
So there you have it, the most likely playoff matchups for the Phillies in the playoffs. Is there a matchup you'd prefer to see? Make sure you head out to the ballpark to see at least one game during the Phillies' attempt at another World Series title.
