Los Angeles Dodgers Playoff Tickets - Possible Playoff Matchups

By Brent Warnken
Sep 24, 2009
The Los Angeles Dodgers hold a slim lead over the chase pack in the National League West. While they're the most likely team to make the postseason out of the NL West, they'll need to play tough down the stretch to get into the playoffs. Even though things are still up in the air, we can look forward to the possible playoff matchups that the Dodgers could expect when they begin their postseason run (knock on wood, of course). The Dodgers certainly have a couple of teams they'd rather avoid, and a few that they might prefer to play. Here are a couple of the most obvious matchups to consider. Make sure you get out to the home Dodgers playoff games by securing Los Angeles Dodgers playoff tickets online where you can get into the game even when the stadium is sold out.

Division Series - The Los Angeles Dodgers are getting closed in on by the Colorado Rockies in the NL West, but they still have a lead and at this point they look as through they're headed for the No. 1 seed in the National League playoff bracket (assuming the Dodgers can stay ahead of the Phillies and won't get passed by the Cardinals). If the season ended today the Dodgers would play the Phillies in the division series. Last year the Dodgers were dealt a crushing blow in the playoffs by the Phillies so it would seem like a great time to enact some revenge. The Dodgers played the Phillies tough this season. The season series between the Dodgers and the Phillies was won by L.A. four games to three, and the run differential was close (L.A. 26, Philadelphia 25).

Championship Series - Assuming the Rockies and the Cardinals play in the other division series in the playoffs, who would the Dodgers rather play, Colorado or St. Louis? So far this year the Dodgers have played the Rockies 15 times and won 12 of those matchups with a combined run differential of 92-56. That's some impressive domination. St. Louis on the other hand, has not been as easy. The Dodgers trail the Cardinals in their season series two games to five, and the Cardinals have outscored them this year 31-19. Clearly, the Dodgers would feel more confident going up against the Colorado Rockies in the playoffs.

World Series - The World Series is hard to pick at the moment, but the teams who are most likely to face the Dodgers in a possible World Series matchup are the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Boston red Sox and Detroit Tigers. Obviously the storyline for a New York-L.A. series would be interesting (Joe Torre, Mark Teixeira), an all-Los Angeles series would be nice for So Cal baseball fans, and a series against the Red Sox would have the Manny Ramirez storyline front and center. The Dodgers did not play the Yankees, Red Sox or Tigers this year, and they tied their interleague series with the Angles three games apiece.

So there you have it, the most likely playoff opponents for the Dodgers as they head into the postseason. No matter who they play the games will be fun and entertaining, so get a couple seats to enjoy the show! Root for the Dodgers from the stands and show some support for your team!
