Shaving Techniques For Men

Aug 18, 2007
For men, shaving may seem easy just like brushing one's hair. But have you recently looked at yourself in the mirror and be able to say that you are contented with how you do your shave? Or do you have that gut feeling that you're not doing it right? Well, you can always check. Here are some shaving and after shaving techniques that will make you look good and feel good.

1. The beard should be wet. This would prevent any rash or irritation on skin. If possible, shower first before shaving so as to moisturize the beard thoroughly. But if not, you may pat a hot wet towel after washing your face. Remember to always use hot water and not cold.

2. As much as possible always use a shaving cream. Shaving cream provides lather and lubrication for its moisturizing properties. This helps make shaving as effortless as possible for you. Shaving cream serves its purpose to liven up the face and to enable the razor to glide easily and expeditiously. Let the shaving cream stay for at least a minute or so for the beard to be moisturized and smoothened.

3. Select a good razor and regularly replace old and dull blades. A good razor is sharp and makes shaving almost effortless. This means you may have to try several types and brands of razors to find one that suits you best. When you do find the razor that fits you, maintain its efficiency by changing the blades regularly after using it for 3-5 times and wash it only with hot water.

4. Use a shaving brush. A lot of people take this for granted but a shaving brush has the purpose of achieving that perfect shave. However, the right brush is the one that gives the perfect balance between the smoothness and the resistance to gather up the beard.

5. Wash after shaving. Getting the perfect shave means not stopping after shaving. Clean your face with warm water and wash with a facial cleanser that has tea tree oil and witch hazel. Don't ever think of rubbing loofah or a sponge for you might suffer from irritation. There's basically no need to use one since shaving has already exfoliated your skin.

6. Apply aftershave moisturizers. Do this right after you washed your face after shaving. This may not be necessary but it will keep your face very fresh and cool. Aftershave moisturizers will give you a calming effect and will replenish moisture that was lost.

7. Treat red bumps right. Bumps and cuts can result from shaving. Treat it with some cream that has aspirin and ingredients that will help soothe and reduce the bumps.
