Weapon Holster Objectives: Security, Access And Concealment

Experienced gun carriers are holster collectors. It's a fact and it seems to be unavoidable as they go through a collection of holsters to find the right fit that is secure, has easy access and provides great concealment. It is important to find a holster that is made of the right material as well. Holsters are made of nylon, or kydex (thermoplastic acrylic-polyvinyl chloride alloy), or holster. Regardless of the weapon holster material, it is imperative that the holster is comfortable, easy to use and fits to the body for superior concealment.

The holster should hold the gun securely in place while you are running, while getting in and out of cars, while you're upside down and while just sitting in a chair. We are creatures of movement and each body movement must be addressed for a holster to be a secure vessel to store the firearm.

The holster should provide easy access in a quick instant of time. Things happen in split seconds and the gun carrier must be like a well-oiled machine. Think of the Western gunfighter who is fast on the draw. The same applies under circumstances and conditions of movement such as rolling on the ground, strapped in a seat belt, walking or running. The gun should be secured in a stable position so that the draw is consistent and reliable.

The holster must provide true concealment so an outline is not visible through the most revealing garments. The holster has to blend in, almost become part of the body in order not to divulge the bulge.

The holster must provide quick, easy re-holstering so the gun carrier can get the gun back into the holster quickly and fluidly. It is just as important to re-holster the weapon as it is to draw the weapon. Therefore, design and material are two very important components in security, access and weapon concealment.

While nylon is inexpensive and can provide for all of the above objectives, it breaks down easily and can become loose from use. A kydex holster holds its shape and is extremely durable. It is a lightweight and stable holster and provides security for swift and jarring movements. Leather holsters are an all time favorite but need to be broken in and at that point, may lose stability and durability. Finding the right holster can be difficult therefore, requires collecting until the best holster is found.
