When It Is Better To Book Hotels Near The Hammersmith Apollo

By Anna Stenning

You've booked the tickets, you have collected the money off of your mates, you booked the afternoon off work, it seems like everything is planned and booked. There is surely nothing else that you would have to do. Then the website offers you a link to hotels near the Hammersmith Apollo, but you quickly dismiss that, why spend money on a hotel when you can simply travel up on the train.

Having been in a similar situation, I have seen firsthand how a dream concert can suddenly turn into a complete nightmare. After booking the tickets on one of the various official websites that had stock and paying on my credit card, which is it always wise to do so you are covered in case of any problems, we were on our way.

The thought of booking hotels near the Hammersmith Apollo didn't even cross my mind. Living just over one hour outside of London, we planned to jump on the train on the evening in question, before switching over to the tubes to make the final part of our journey.

The tickets arrived in the post and the excitement started to build, inside the envelope with the tickets was an advert to book hotels near the Hammersmith Apollo. I ripped it up and chucked it in the bin laughing at the thought of spending extra money that wasn't necessary. With the day in question fast approaching, we checked the train timetables and allowed time for any possible problems. When the day of the event arrived disaster struck as the trains had gone on strike. After the sense of initial shock, we decided that it wasn't likely to cause us a problem. Instead we could jump in the car and travel down the motorway to one of the various tube stations on outer London and then travel in from there.

The first part of our journey went as planned. Making good time it all seemed to be going well until we hit traffic around Chelmsford. There had been an accident on the road and there was a long queue stretching down the road. We had obviously allowed for some delays and we even joked in the car about how it would have been beneficial to have looked at the hotels near the Hammersmith Apollo on the website. We wouldn't be laughing later.

We cleared the accident and continued our journey making it to the tube station with little time to spare, but now we only had the tube system standing between us and the concert. The phrase so close and yet so far, couldn't have been more applicable at this time. After making it near the centre of London we were informed we would have to change trains as there had been a problem with the line ahead. When we reached the centre of London our initial route to the concert wasn't available because of servicing which meant that we had to change onto two more tube trains before arriving at our destination slightly late, we didn't miss any of the concert but we were stuck out the back of the Apollo with a poor view of the act we had paid to see. So in the long run I would definitely look to book hotels near the Hammersmith Apollo.
