Brilliant Ideas All Around Us
Do you ever stop to appreciate the fact that we live such comfortable lives in our country? If you are like me, life gets so busy that I often do not have any time to myself to just think. I assume that this is a general scenario for most Americans. We fill our schedules so full of a million activities that life can leave very little time for daily personal thought and meditation. Today, however, was different.
I stopped to think for a moment about how I am able to do so many things with very little effort on my part. Every day of my life I am given so many easy ways to accomplish my tasks. This is because of our technology. There have been so many incredible discoveries which make my easy life possible and I hardly give them any credit. These inventions are so common to me that I do not think of them really as inventions anymore. They are simply objects that I use to attain my goals.
For example, if I need to clean my house I can choose from a number of different items to help me get the job done correctly. I have a washing machine which I can use to make sure that all of the laundry gets done. I have a dishwasher that will wash and rinse and even dry my dishes automatically. Both of these items save me a lot of time. Can you imagine how long it would take you if you had to wash everything by hand? Now what are we supposed to think about vacuums? We use these devices to suck dirt off and out of virtually any surface in our home. Do you ever stop to think why these things are possible? Again, if you are like me, you probably do not.
These machines are able to work with just simply pressing a button. But to the people who love to invent and create, these machines are made up of complex gears and have such intricate scientific relationships using electricity to create movement. For example, a vacuum pump is something that displaces air from one area to another and the simple idea of an invention like this is used on many different levels from small objects like light bulbs to larger vacuum pumps that are used at industrial facilities.
We can't always take time to realize the complexness of the objects around us, but if we do take the time to actually realize why things are working for us, we will sit in awe. It is so amazing to think that someone's brain actually conceived these ideas and then worked to make them happen.
