Availability of Illinois Teaching Jobs
Illinois has always been in the top ring in the field of education. All that hard work and dedication from past teachers is now beginning to pay off by increasing the market for Illinois teaching jobs.
Illinois has had great success as far as national rankings for its teachers. In 2007, it ranked 4th in teachers who achieved National Board Certification, and 6th in average teachers salary. With so much success, it is obvious that a teaching occupation in Illinois have high standards, along with high rewards. This is why Illinois teaching jobs are so in demand among educators.
It is important to keep in mind that even though some statistics show the high quality demand of Illinois teaching jobs, others show the high demand itself. Illinois Department of Employment Security has stated that teaching jobs in Illinois will increase faster than its former average by the year 2014. The market is constantly expanding for teaching jobs. The United States Department of Labor's statistics show the amount of people employed by Illinois' education and health services has jumped 1.5 percent between 2007 and 2008.
Currently, the secondary education accounts for the largest Illinois teaching job market, with approximately 3,000 job openings per year. But as the Baby Boomers children enter college over the next few years, its likely that demand for educators will shift slightly toward post-secondary institutions. However, demand for support professionals such as counselors, librarians, and teacher aides is expected to remain fairly steady.
A previously stated, a great number of Illinois teaching jobs are held in public secondary schools. However, many educators with advanced degrees may also be thinking about some of the many Illinois post-secondary schools. Some of these post secondary schools located in Illinois are: The University of Chicago, Northwestern University, Illinois Institute of Technology, DePaul University, Illinois State University, and Loyola University of Chicago.
Even though the universities and school districts hire on their own, Illinois teaching jobs as a whole are ultimately regulated by the Illinois State Board of Education, a public foundation that is administers public education and constantly examines the performance of its schools.
