The Most Important Reason To Do Martial Arts Training
It seems martial arts can do everything from help people lose weight to help kids overcome ADHD, and it can all be done with minimal effort, but anyone who really trains knows the truth about martial arts knows there is more to it than that. Sure if you train a few times a week you'll get into shape, but you can do that by just doing thirty minutes of exercise daily. As to helping kids discipline and structure has always helped kids learn, but there are no quick fixes. Sure you should have fun and feed your need for competition, but the primary reason for martial arts training should be self defense. Everything else is just details.
Martial arts are created so that a person can deal with a physical threat when it presents it self, and while people may study martial arts for many different reasons in the end it is really about self preservation, and that happens when you drive the other guy back. We aren't talking about dance or competitions sports here, we're talking about close combat and it doesn't get much more personal than that. Close quarter combat occurs when you take on an enemy when they're feet and inches away not yards and miles way and weapons are just tools. The most important thing is the will to fight, but if you don't have the discipline and the training it won't matter.
You might just want to change up your workout routine and try something new, and as side benefit learn how to protect yourself and enjoy the confidence that brings, but are you really getting what you want? The latest craze is mixed martial arts where you train for competitions that allow a variety of techniques from different styles to be used. Basically it is a mix of boxing and wrestling which are fun combative sports that come with a host of rules and regulations setup to try and prevent injuries.
Sure athletes get hurt and some are even occasionally killed, but most of the time it is by accident and it wasn't the intention of the fighter (mostly of the time) to do their opponent permanent bodily harm. So since you're learning a sport you have to understand you aren't learning how to hurt someone.
Now you might be saying to yourself you don't want to hurt people, and besides you want to learn the techniques that disarm an attacker or take them down with one blow. Well, that isn't going to happen in real life and if you try anything fancy your body will pay the price. If you try to take a knife or other weapon away someone they'll probably beat the crap out of you with their free hand, and few people go down with one punch. You can try that impressive wrist lock, but you think you can do it while someone is screaming and hitting you? Everyone has a plan until they get hit, so you need a skill set that will pull you through in any situation.
