LED Screens, The Future In Big, Bright, Bold Definition
We are constantly being told today that size matters, our cars, mobile phones, houses and one hundred other items are all judged mainly on their size before being assessed and rated, our possessions are becoming status symbols for our lives.
Televisions are yet another item that could fall into the above category. After a hard day's work there is nothing better than relaxing at home with a good film or tv sitcom and a lot of us these days are starting to invest in surround sound systems to achieve the perfect set-up for our big LCD or plasma screens. But if you want to get a really big screen you need to look into a different form of technology, LED screens.
LED stands for light emitting diode, which is basically a small bulb which emits light when a small current is passed across it. This technology is becoming more commonplace in society today with buses, cars, traffic lights and many more products harnessing the power of the LED.
It also makes it possible to create massive LED screens without loss of picture quality, with the largest of these being manufacturer to fit inside the trailer of an HGV lorry. These screens can then be transported around the country to one of the many sporting events that take place every weekend. They really are a sight to behold.
I recently attended a sporting event where the organisers had arranged for one of these large LED screens to be present. The event in question was the World Superbike Championship round at Donington Park and parked on the infield at the first corner was one of these huge portable screens that had been erected above the trailer. The sheer scale of the structure is the first thing that strikes you as you approach it. We pass HGV's on the roads all the time, but to have a television or projection screen the length of the trailer and three times as high was mighty impressive.
It proved to be very handy for all the spectators present as we were able to follow the action live as the bikes rushed past our standing position before turning round to watch the remainder of the lap on the various LED screens. It managed to give you a real organic feeling as although you were watching the action on the screen, you still managed to get the full effect of the sounds and smells of the paddock.
It looks as though this technology has grabbed hold of the television and projection market and it seems hard to imagine where technology of LED screens could go from here, but I look forward to finding out.
