Coccyx Pain And Its Symptoms

By Amit Kheterpal

The coccyx is the last four fuse vertebrae that are there which are basically the remnants of the old tail which the earlier homo-sapiens had initially before we evolved as a human form.

Coccyx is considered as the vestigial organ and that means that it is not that useful but that is not really correct because of the fact that the coccyx is that tripod structure which takes all the pressure when we sit. It also takes most of the weight when while sitting we bend backwards.

Now a lot of people start getting pain in the coccyx area and most people think that it is the pain in the lumbar area. The main reason being that most of the people are unaware about the coccyx. This coccyx bone is also known as the tailbone. If you feel the pain in the lower lumbar region you should consult the doctors or rather the orthopedic immediately. The doctor will be able to assess correctly as to where the oain is and will begin the treatment accordingly.

In a lot of cases the coccyx pain occurs because of the fall or because of the continuous sitting and stress on the tailbone pain. The tailbone pin can also be there because of defect which is there since the birth. When the pain is there in the tailbone then you should go to the doctor who will suggest you an appropriate course of action.

In a lot of cases there is no surgery required and you may just get the desired relief by using the acupuncture technique or just by normal massage. In some cases the surgeon may apply certain techniques to make sure that the tailbone is in its proper place.

Some other symptoms of the coccyx are that you will feel this pain when you are standing up. The reason being that extra pressure is exerted when you are trying to stand up. The other major symptom is that you will feel the pain in the lower portion of the legs while sitting and this pain will occasionally be felt from the lower back to the entire leg area and can be very severe sometimes.

Coccyx pain should not be treated lightly and physician advice should be sought. Again make sure that doctor does not go for the surgery directly as that can be a bit hazardous than other non surgical options.
