Job Stress Management: What Happens When Job Stress Is Not Managed

The existence of stress for those who are employed is very common; this might be due to the work or the workplace itself. The disturbing data regarding stress at work is very evident, the number of employees who finds their job as the main cause of their stress is at twenty five percent, and seventy five percent of employed today believes that they are much stressed with their work compared to what the previous generation of employed people have experienced. The data also projected that thirty percent of those who are employed today are believed to be in high level of stress.

An employee is always exposed to stress triggers, some of these may include the question of how he or she manages the demands of his her work, the pressure of high expectations that lies with in the job and the need to balance work with personal need. Due to this unwanted circumstances in the work or workplace, both are considered to be to be emotional and physiological states as a result to the mentioned factors.

Stress has been known to contribute to and create different side effects which may affect people who are under stress. Effects may vary from complications in health and even some psychological disorder. Workplace related stress may develop and cause different biological reactions that results to health complications and worst are cases that may lead to death. Depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder are most common mental disorders that may be caused by stress.

There have been many studies and research made to understand more about the worst effects of stress. Different studies have shown that serious stress cases may develop complications in one's health. A research has shown that Japanese men, who had stress due to their jobs, may have a high risk of stroke. There are some researches that even suggest that stress can lead to hypertension and mentally demanding jobs may result to cardiovascular disease.

The effect of job related stress often depends on some decisions made by the company management and the work place itself. The decision of reducing work force and termination of some employees obviously mean more workload for those who are left behind. The same situation to companies with unhealthy work environments may also create stress to discriminated employees.
