When people travel to South East Asia for the first time, most have Thailand at the top of their list of destinations to visit. It is not an accident that so many people visit Thailand first. It is beautiful, easy to get around and has many things to do for any type of tourist or traveler.

Visiting a new country for the first time can be very intimidating. Being introduced to a new culture and language can cause a little bit of butterflies in the stomach once you step off the plane. Where do you go, what should you see? Here are some suggestions of great places that will take you outside of the tourist route and make you experience and adventure in Thailand to its fullest.

Ralaigh Beach, Krabi. One of the most popular tourist areas in Thailand is Krabi Province. It is filled with beautiful beaches and lush green islands. Kharst formations jut out of the South China sea and in one spot in particular, you can climb them with the safety of a guide. Experienced and new climbers from all over the world flock to the sandy beaches of Ralaigh to climb their world class routes.

National Parks. Thailand is filled with national parks and one of the best is Khao Sok. It is not as popular as other parks in the north, but that is the charm of the place. Inner tube down the river, stay in a bungalow in the middle of the jungle and hire a guide to take you on a guided elephant trek. It will be the highlight of your trip.

Northern Thailand is one of the most popular spots for anyone traveling the country. People visit hill tribes, take cooking courses, shop in the famous night market or head up to Pai to chill out and relax. But a meditation course is an incredible way to immerse yourself in the culture. Find your centre as you meditate, learn tai chi and cleanse by eating a vegetarian diet. Your body will thank you.

In Kanchanaburi you can witness the famous Bridge on the River Kwai. Learn about the atrocities that took place here at the JEATH War Museum commemorating the men who died to build the bridge. Take a walk right on the tracks or hop on the short train ride that actually takes tourists over it. Stay in a floating river raft bungalow located right on the River Kwai, it is a nice change of pace to the hustle and bustle of Bangkok.

Bangkok has a great transit system and getting around is quite easy. From the subway to skytrain, river boats to taxi's. But one mode of transportation that will give you a thrill and memories to last for years will be to hire a tuk tuk. A famous sight on any postcard or photo of Thailand, these are small 3 wheel motorbikes that can carry 2 to 3 people and whip in and out of traffic at zippy speads.

Thailand is famous for its beaches for swimming and fun in the sun. But another place to relax in the water is at one of its many waterfalls. Normally you will find locals bathing here, you can get to know the people as you cool off in crystal blue water. They are found all over the country, so ask around and go ahead and visit one.

There are many things to do in Thailand that most people already know about from the tour books. Visit the Grand Palace, try your hand at kickboxing or check out some traditional dancing. To truly appreciate everything that Thailand has to offer, you will be tempted to revisit year after year.
