Leadership Mastery-How To Begin With Yourself Personal Development-Leadership Development

Did you know that if you are able to effectively manage yourself that you will be easily able to inspire and lead anyone else? You may or may not have realized this already, but you are the most influential person in your life and any personal leadership must begin with mastering your own vices. Did you know that almost every great leader in history became that way through the mastery of this one principle? If you are convinced that personal leadership is the key to public leadership, then here are three proven principles which can get you on track today.

The very first thing to do is get your energy focused on the things which are under your control and off of the things which you cannot. Too many people waster their resources trying to make themselves responsible for the opinions, perceptions, emotions and desires of others. This is not only a waste of your energy, but it is a dead end in trying to influence others. Instead it will lead to codependent compromise based relationships at best. Make it a point to examine all of your actions and motives to see if they are based on an attempt to be responsible for others or for yourself.

The second step is to get proactive in relation to the things which you want to make happen instead of the things which you want to avoid. Simply being proactive is not enough, you have to take action based on where you want to be in five or ten years instead of thinking ahead simply to manage the potential problems which life may send your way. This is the key difference between people who are successfully proactive and those who are simply managing their life by what they believe that life is going to give them.

Finally, develop an action plan for achieving your goals which is both measurable and flexible. You may have heard that you can't manage or improve what you cannot measure, but this is only half of the need when it comes to an action plan. Any plan which is not flexible enough to be adjusted according to the desired results sows the seeds for its own destruction. Make sure that your plan is based on action steps which are small enough to be adjusted along the way in order to ensure that the end goal does not get compromised. This will ensure that you will persevere and reach your long term goals.

Follow this process consistently and you will find that personal leadership naturally gives way to the leading of others. As Napoleon Hill said in 'Think and Grow Rich', "The world has a way of making room for people who can show that they know where they are going." This is the most important thing when it comes to leadership, people will not only get out of your way if you are certain about your direction but they are also more likely to forgive you when you fail. The most important thing is that you do not give up and that you fight on the face of what appears to be failure. This will prove without a doubt that you are a leader worth following.
