If you're still researching whether or not the Carbonite online backup utility is right for you, you should know that the process to restore files from Carbonite is easy enough for anyone to understand. Carbonite has made their place in the online backup services market by offering one of the most affordable services available and making it so streamlined that you don't have to be a computer whiz to understand it. The process for restoring your files is made even easier by a software wizard that Carbonite offers.

If you are ever faced with the task of restoring your files after reformatting your hard drive or after a computer crash, the first thing you would need to do is download the Carbonite software again. As soon as you do this, the setup wizard will ask you to choose from two options - restore your files later or restore your files now. If you opt to restore them immediately, you will then be asked if you prefer the files downloaded to their original locations, or choose specific files for specific users. Most users would choose option one but even the more advanced option is not that difficult to follow.

Restoring a single file is also possible with Carbonite. Note that the Carbonite is recognized by your computer as a virtual drive, which means that you can open and navigate to it right in your My Computer folder. Once you open the Carbonite drive, it's simply a matter of looking for the single file that you want to restore. Choose the file, then click Restore to send the file back to its original location, or Restore To if you want to save it in another folder this time. Restoring previous versions of the file is also possible up to the saved ones for the last three months. Just click on the Restore Previous Version option.

However, you need to understand that while Carbonite offers great service, it also has its downside. Depending on the file size, restoring files can take some time. For instance, a file of a few hundred megabytes can take hours or even days to fully recover. Although most users tend to overlook this fact and seem to not mind the number of hours spent waiting for the data as soon as the recovery is successful, some users who want their files back in a snap and consider the slow process as a huge inconvenience.

Carbonite is not a flawless service, but it is an extremely attractive one. They offer what other companies charge ten times the amount for. You also get an ease of use that is hard to match with many other online backup services. When you put all these things together, you get a great service which appeals to a large group of people.
