Would you like to know how to prevent cold sores and get your social life back? Then be sure to read this article. You will discover an easy method to effectively prevent cold sores.

Many people have been preventing cold sores by quite simply taking top quality nutritional supplements. There is no reason why it won't work for you too.

You can use a variety of topical cold sore remedies to heal a sore, but the only way to actually prevent cold sores is by internal treatment.

About 90% of the population carries the herpes simplex virus - the virus that causes all cold sores.

Mostly the virus is hiding in the ganglia cells of your facial nerves. It only becomes active if it detects the conditions are favorable for making new virus.

There are many conditions that cause cold sores but these are the three main ones.

1. Weakness in your immunity due to stress and lack of necessary nutrients.

2. Your pH balance is no longer alkaline and has dropped into the acid zone.

3. You have too much of the amino acid Arginine available for use by the herpes virus.

If you have heard that stress is the main trigger, it is true. But only because stress is a primary cause of conditions 1 and 2 above.

You can help to correct these effects of stress by seeing to it that you get optimum levels of vitamins and minerals every day.

But here are two things you must keep in mind.

A. Studies have shown commercially raised food today will provide up to 75% less essential nutrients than the same foods from 50 years ago.

Commercial farmland is terribly depleted. This is a big part of the reason we have more and more disease scares every year - and why you need supplements.

B. Don't buy those two per day vitamins. They are expensive and do not give you the quality or quantity you must have for therapeutic results.

Get the highest quality you can afford - from a vitamin store or on-line. Otherwise you won't get the results you want.

Getting proper levels of vitamins A, C, D, E and all the B's is important. The main minerals that will be helpful for preventing cold sores are calcium, magnesium and zinc.

The oil-based vitamins are A, D and E. These are critical for the health and beauty of your skin - and help resist attack by the cold sore virus.

Vitamin C, and the entire family of the B's, are called the stress vitamins. They reduce how stress affects your body. These vitamins burn up quickly so take daily.

Zinc is considered a very powerful mineral for healing and fighting infections. Limit intake to about 30 milligrams per day.

A form of Zinc (called zinc sulfate) is found in some topical cold sore remedies. It also is quite effective in stopping and healing an existing sore.

Calcium is an essential nutrient to prevent cold sores. It keeps your body alkaline and out of the acid zone. Calcium needs magnesium for best absorption.

When your body drops into an acid condition, you are very vulnerable to cold sore activity. Essential tissue oxygen levels drop as the pH levels drop too.

Calcium is so important to your health that your system will rob it from your bones if you do not take in enough. Most people take 1000 to 2000 milligrams daily.

Finally, get some Lysine. Any good cold sore prevention program must include lysine supplements.

Lysine takes care of condition 3 above by neutralizing excessive Arginine in your cells. Lysine effectively keeps Arginine from being used by the herpes virus.

Simply put - if Arginine is not available, the cold sore virus will go back to the harmless dormant stage.

Arginine is very common and can be found in most foods. A little is just fine. You can't avoid getting some Arginine in a healthy diet.

Lysine is also a common amino acid in most foods. However, for preventing cold sores, you need to get more. Most people take one or two 500 milligram Lysine capsules every day.

Using this internal method is truly how to prevent cold sores. It works for thousands of others and most likely will work for you also.

There are many advanced tricks to preventing cold sores, and some great cold sore remedies, but this treatment should always be used as your first line of defense.
