By John Skoob

Have you ever thought about how you could make a change in the world and have a huge impact at the same time? Heres an idea! Run a book drive. Book drives can benefit not only your local community but the global community as well.

Availability is one reason many people dont have access to books. Believe it or not these are everyday people that live within your own city and even within your own neighborhood! Listed below are several programs that can benefit from a book drive:

Families: There are many children who are deprived of books because they cannot afford to buy them. A book drive can give children the opportunity to receive books in their own homes.

Educational Facilities: Students reading needs go unmet largely because the teachers budgets cannot afford to provide their students with the books they need. Meaningful education and training can be provided to students and teachers via unused or unwanted books gathered from a book drive.

Correctional Institutions: Education and entertainment is just a couple of ways these Adult literacy programs can benefit from books contributed by a book drive.

Recycling: An effective way to improve and care for the environment is to recycle damaged and obsolete books. If you receive damaged or obsolete books during a book drive its ok go ahead and recycle it. Books that were once on their way to the landfill can now be turned into paper!

Worldwide Programs: As the global community grows in many developing countries throughout the world; so does the need for educational materials such as books. There is a definite increase in demand for books written in other languages.

Public or College Libraries: Propaganda cleansing and civil war have left entire libraries with little to no books. These libraries struggle to replenish shelves that were once full of various reading and educational materials. A book drive can help these damaged libraries by leaps and bounds in a very short time.

A book drive can benefit your community locally and globally in three easy to follow steps. They are:

Plan " a book drive in your community or school.

Execute " assemble volunteers and set up collection points.

Evaluate " count the books collected and assess your success!

By following these three basic steps you will see how a book drive can improve the environment locally, reduce landfill waste, and provide a home for unwanted and unused books. Books that are put into that hands that need them are able to provide education and entertainment for those who are less fortunate.

As you can see a book drive can have a large impact with very little effort. You can increase a childs desire to read by providing them with books. Books that are contributed to a book drive gives schools with low budgets an opportunity for students to choose from a large variety of books. Correctional facilities and Public learning centers are able to provide needed books for education and entertainment materials that will benefit its users. Rural as well as global communities can benefit with people that are empowered with literary skills. These are just a few ways you can change your community and the global community through a book drive.
