An Introduction To Ink Stamps
Alright if you have just picked up the hobby of ink stamping, congratulations to you! It is a very enriching and rewarding activity. Now, for some of you beginners, there might be a little confusion on how to get started and what kind of ink stamps to get. Dont worry; we will go through some of the basics so you can get a clear idea.
Now for ink stamps, it can be basically broken down into two types. One is the dye type while the other is the Pigment type. What are these you may ask? Well the dye type of ink stamp allows the ink to directly absorb into the craft paper itself. Whereas for the pigment type of ink stamp it just layers over the craft paper. You could say it stamps over the paper like a seal. The pigmentation method gives a thicker feel and look to the pictures. This is popular for scrap booking. One main reason is that pigmented pictures do not fade as easily as those that are imprinted with the dyed method.
But of course each of these two methods are suitable depending on the type of ink stamping you are doing. Lets take a quick look at what the pros and cons for each of these ink stamps are. The dye ink stamp method could be considered a classical method. It forms the rudimentary and basis of ink stamping. What great about this method is that the ink dries up pretty fast. You dont have to worry about accidentally ruining the images with your hands. It is great for making cards for all occasions " Christmas, birthdays, etc. It is also definitely cheaper than the pigment ink stamps method. The disadvantages are as mentioned earlier " it fades easier.
Alright, for the pigment ink stamps method, it is great for making scrapbooks, as it does not fade easily. If you are doing embossing, then it is perfect as well, since the ink does not dry as fast, you are able to place embossing powders sticks to it better. Of course the flip side of this is you must be careful when handling the images, to avoid smearing it while the ink is still wet.
Thats just a quick introduction to the world of ink stamps and hopefully you can now get a clearer picture of how to select and get started on ink stamping. Good luck with your projects!
