Rare Gem among Metaphysical Books
Illuminating Physical Experience by Foley, Shaffer and Davidsson is a brilliant expose on a wide range of metaphysical topics, many of which are politically explosive, such as the spiritual significance of each of the world religions and the five races of mankind. It's a hard to find gem, first published in 1999, which the world may finally be ready for.
As mentioned, spiritual perspectives on many politically incorrect topics are covered by this book in a delicate and sensitive way. For example, each of the five world religions is scrutinized in terms of its spiritual and karmic lesson. This is done in such a way that it feels balanced and [relatively] objective, which helps leave the reader with a sense of inspired reflection on religion rather than feeling insulted.
Next follows a similar analysis of the five races of humanity: yellow, brown, white, black and red. The karmic and spiritual strengths and weaknesses of each race are evaluated. Even though this is a potentially even more inflamed topic than world religions, again the book is able to pull it off without sounding judgmental or offensive.
Of the five races, the white race is the one that gets the harshest criticism. But even that comes off as non-offensive, probably due to the fact that the three authors themselves are white, which makes it feel [if anything] self-recriminating rather than racist.
One third of the book is devoted to body symbology in a fashion both reminiscent of and yet distinctly different from Louise Hay. In 1984, Louise Hay revolutionized body-mind medicine with her outlining of the mental component of various illnesses. Illuminating Physical Experience goes more into the spiritual and emotional causes, although mental judgments as causative are also addressed.
Paraphrasing the book: Diseases are caused by emotional blockages. The reason why the emotions are blocked are mental judgments. And there is always some physical mechanism through which the disease manifests, such as a bacteria or virus, injury or auto-immune response, although the mechanism is never the real cause.
Illuminating Physical Experience also covers a wide array of other fascinating topics, many of which are also politically incorrect, for example: Homosexuality, transsexuals and transvestites; abortions and miscarriages; and why children kill. [The book came out only months after the Columbine High School massacre.]
Other exciting topics covered from a new and unique perspective include: Atlantis and Lemuria; soul fragmentation; psychic cording; releasing vows and hexes; emotional ownership, and much more. Appendix II is extensive and lists 20 alternative healing modalities, and how they can help with spiritual and emotional growth and development.
Overall, this book introduces fresh new perspectives on a vast number of topics, with insights that often are as unique as they are provocative and inspiring. It's a must read for any serious student of metaphysics.
