It lies closer to the UK than many other popular tourist destinations. Almost everybody will find something fascinating here, something they would look for in vain elsewhere. The country, which has for centuries been attracting foreigners with its uniqueness, is now even more open and accessible. Visitors are welcome any time of the year, travelling on their own or in organized groups.

The Polish National Tourist Office in London will be happy to help all UK visitors plan a trip to Poland, and to offer UK tour operators and travel agents our professional services and friendly support. Please explore this site to find out more about Poland, Europes most attractive holiday destination.

Poland has 38 million inhabitants, 1650000 of whom live in the capital city of Warsaw and other major cities, such as Cracow, Gdansk, Poznan, Lodz, Szczecin, Wroclaw.

The population is largely of Polish descent. The official language is Polish. Here you will find the national anthem and national emblem.

Poland is a parliamentary republic and is divided into 16 administrative provinces. Since 1989, the country has been undergoing an important transformation into a market economy.

The Polish tourism has also bloomed in the past years, and Poland is nowadays a major tourist destination. This country has a beautiful landscape, big modern cities as well as medieval towns, romantic villages and charming castles. All these elements, combined with affordable prices and comfortable accommodations, make Poland a favourite tourist attraction.

Poland is the 14th most attractive tourist destination in the world, with over 14 million tourists visiting this beautiful country every year. There are 13 UNESCO world heritage sights in Poland. The best known are the old town in Warsaw, the Wawel Castle in Krakow, the Wieliczka Salt Mine and, of course, the Auschwitz Nazi Concentration Camp. These sights are not only important for the culture and history of Poland, but they are significant parts of the cultural and historical heritage of the world. This is the reason why it is very important to preserve them for the next generations.

Poland has a temperate changeable climate. Spring starts in March with temperatures varying from the mid 30s to the low 60s until about May or June. July is the hottest month, but the rest of the summer is also quite warm with temperatures ranging from the mid 70s into the low 90s. Initially warm and balmy, September marks the beginning of Polands autumn. Thereafter, the days become more damp and foggy until December, when winter arrives and the temperature drops to a few degrees below zero. Characterised by abundant snowfall, Polands winter season caters for winter sports of all types.
