Southwestern Floor Lamps Focus Your Design

By Craig Chambers

Two different cultures came together to give us what we know today as Southwestern decor. The native Indians of the region were none too happy to see the early Spanish settlers in the 18th century and confrontations often arose. However, over a period of time the two cultures intermingled and gave us a look that we know and love today.

The distinctive Southwestern look is known around the world and is much in demand. People often decide to redecorate or redesign their home to try and achieve that "calming" effect that traditional decor from the region represents. Make sure that you incorporate every element of the traditional lifestyle of the area and remember that you need original creations and not imported "knockoffs," which owe very little to native Indian creation.

In any redesign project, it is all about the details. Set the tone for your work by incorporating the right balance of fixtures and fittings and the right overall lighting effects. If you choose some of the distinctive Southwestern floor lamps, they can become a conversation piece in any room and help to balance out the project.

As opposed to regular ceiling lights or table lamps, southwestern floor lamps are more than just functional. They can truly show your creativity and when used correctly can create an entirely different atmosphere and look for your room.

Remember that southwestern decor is very rich in symbolism and owes everything to the image that you are trying to portray. Invariably you will be looking for items that are substantially made and claimed by native artists. Redesign and redecoration can be an expensive project and you should not cut corners by trying to re-create a look artificially. We all know that at the end of the day, something will just not look right!

Many regional design elements and images of flora and fauna adorn Southwestern floor lamps. These are very ornate and rustic items, designed to reflect the native textures and the rich earth toned colors that you find in the area.

Two very distinctive and different looks can be achieved when you're selecting southwestern floor lamps for your redesign project. Some people opt for the wrought-iron look, while others prefer the significant elements of nature which can be incorporated when you choose antler lamps. Each one of these is different and is composed of genuine elements, shed by the animal during the spring of each season.

Always turn to experts if you really want to create that authentic regional look. Southwestern table lamps can be enhanced by the right lampshades and chosen to match rugs and tapestries, wall pieces, basketry and the entire presentation designed to pay homage to the region.
