Sickness Management Absence

By David Wilson
Oct 8, 2009
Sickness absence management in the UK is a struggling fight month after month, with suggested fraudulent sickness and absence levels hitting 70%, It's a problem that needs resolved, staff having a couple of drinks too many and taking a day off, or looking for a long weekend etc.

With so many laws it's hard for companies to prove their staff are fit and well, with this companies get smarter and use trend systems such as the Bradford Factor and other sickness absence management processes to keep absenteeism to a minimum, although this does help, sickness and absence is still a big problem.

Remember these players are smart, they know how to play you, your system, the doctors, they know what to say to get a sick line, you feel frustrated, you want to sack them on the spot when they get back is as they leave you short staffed or worse, you lose customer, word of warning, be careful here, less hast and all that, they may brag to work colleges and you get wind of this but his mates stick together, with all the laws in place, things could be getting tough as you don't want to end up in court.

This is a horrible situation to be in, but not a bad one, you must think of this as just business and keep your cool, as at the moment you are in control - as you can hire the services of a sickness absence manager who would take pictures, videos and do face interviews describing what they have just filmed and explaining this evidence can be submitted to prove fraudulent sickness absence claims.

For many employees the face to face interview and an explanation of all the videos and photos taken to prove their medical claim looks like fraud and upon their return to work will be required to attend a disciplinary meeting that could lead to dismissal if they can't prove legitimate reasons for being caught on camera and video.

Almost all of the people who have been investigated by a sickness absence manager have not came back to work, but you may still get the staff who don't care and come back to see what happens, except now you the employer has professional evidence that fraud has been committed.
