Stress Relief Work: Workplace Stress Busters

By Johnson Star

Regardless of our occupation or where we work, we always encounter stress. In the workplace, stress may come from different circumstances or situations we face while we do our jobs, or from how we perceive our own performances. Stress is actually helpful if in little amounts since is triggers our fight or flight response. This response involves the release of adrenalin which gives us the more stamina, strength, and the ability to work faster. If left unchecked, however, our body goes into overload and breaks us physically and mentally.

Since stress is unavoidable, all we can do is make sure it does not accumulate and cause us problems in performance. Here are a few tips to immediately disperse the stressors youre dealing with:

Take a deep breath: When you are starting to feel stress building up, pause for a minute and take a deep breath. Taking a deep breath or two will add oxygen into your system allowing you to feel relaxed almost instantly. Taking a deep breath will also help you maintain your composure, which in the long run, is really what you need to get through a stressful situation.

Know your limits: There are some things that you can do and there are some things that you cant. Some of the pressures or stresses that we feel in the office might be the result of our own actions. If you think that you have enough worked lined up for the day dont try to impress your bosses more by taking in more than you can handle. Committing yourself to tasks which you cannot guarantee to finish will only give you more things to worry about, adding up to the stress that you already feel.

Take a break. Taking regulated breaks will allow your body to relax even just for a few minutes, giving you more energy and a fresher insight of things by the time you get back. Taking a brisk walk around the office, making coffee, or just emptying your mind for a few minutes will do. Any action that will break the monotony of your work will be helpful in the long run.

There are more things that you can do in order to handle the stress that you deal with while at work. The best part about this is that you do not need to go anywhere or pay any amount to relax. The important thing is that you recognize and know how to handle all the stressors that might come your way.
