What's the Samsung UE55B7020 Like?
Initial Views: By far the most imposing attribute of the UE55B7020 is the depth of it. Less than 1.5 inches, in reality.Unlike some other manufacturers, Samsung has found space for the whole lot inside the package - no need for a separate box. And the set looks first-class as well, with a sheer black border and a transparent stem connecting the stand and the TV itself.
Audio: Like countless flatscreen TVs the sound output on the UE55B7020 is somewhat modest. There is so little depth to permit decent speakers. So, if you're planning on investing a lot of money in a Television like the UE55B7020 you seriously have to to think about connecting it to separate speakers.
Screen Quality: This is the central plus of the UE55B7020 over its competitors, in that it has replaced fluorescent backlighting with Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs). Not everyone realises that the UE55B7020 is still a LCD TV. it is merely the backlighting that's changed. LEDs have the following advantages:
* LEDs offer a more even light - they employ a crisscross system, rather than the traditional fluorescent light source.
* LEDs can turn out a faultless black - which has not been on the cards with LCD Televisions until currently.
* Reaction times (when watching a fast changing image) are quicker.
* The variety of colours that can be displayed is better.
Socket connectivity: The UE55B7020 has all the connectivity to link up to other equipment and PCs that the majority of us are expected to need - an LAN port, 2 USB ones and 4 HDMI connections. The USB connections allow the playing of a variety of multimedia file formats as well as to your wireless network (you will need a separate dongle.) And the LAN network connection allows easy access to files on your home network.
The UE55B7020 comes with 2 remote controls. Helpful if one gets misplaced! The bigger one looks rather unusual. It curves over at one end, a bit similar to a shoe horn. Peculiar to use at first, but OK after a bit. And a small remote is also available - enabling power of and on, together with channel and volume changes.
Environmental considerations: In service the UE55B7020 uses simply as much power as a light bulb - a great deal less than most modern TVs.
Summing up: Although the sound performance of the UE55B7020 is not up to scratch, it outperforms its competitors, with alive colours and black blacks. The greatest screen quality in its class.
