Aug 18, 2007
When people decide to do something, only a handful of them continue doing that until they get the result they want. Why do people lack discipline in doing what they are supposed to do? What prevent them from keeping their goal and dream? In this article we will talk about how to be discipline ourselves and learn how to keep it all our lives.

We need to go back to psychological theory on pain and pleasure. We do what we do in order to avoid pain and gain pleasure. This is very simple. Once we can make thing pleasurable for us to do, we will do it. One of the reasons that people stop doing something is because they see the pain of keep doing it more than the pleasure they get from not doing it. When the pain outweighs the pleasure, they prefer stop doing it. The key is to make them feel the other way around. The following techniques can be used to keep us do what we need to do. These include:

1. Surround yourself with peer groups who encourage you to pursue what you want. The quality of our life is the direct reflection of the expectation of our peer group. We need to select the peer group that understands the importance of discipline and perseverance. We may find out that our family or closed friends do not have this quality. And we can not ignore them. The secret is love your family but spend more time with the right peer group. Select the right people you mingle with is one of the key elements to keep your discipline.

2. Keep the record of what you are doing and review it. We can not go along effectively and meaningfully without knowing how we have done so far. Reviewing your progress is one of the key tools to evaluate your performance and see if you can do something to bear some result from your action. If the result is not what we want, we need to change our approach. This is however the area that many people are reluctant to do since they have to start to venture on new activity.

3. Have the feeling of excitement. Whether the result of your work is good or bad is the fruit of one thing. The emotion you put into your actions. Feeling controls your actions and later the results of them. Being excited on what you do will add juice to it and you will have more fun and energy in your performance.

4. Start when you decide and keep your momentum. Do not stop doing it no matter what happens. Keeping your momentum is the way to your success. Once you decide to do something, take your immediate action. Do something no matter how small it is. Once you start doing, you will feel the momentum behind and you will tend to keep doing it.

5. Have compelling enough reasons in doing it. We need to know why we want those results. What will be the pleasure from getting it? What will we feel if we do not get it? When we get strong reason why we absolutely need those results, we will have the power to keep doing what we need to do. It will become our discipline. The best way to have those reasons is to write down all of them and place them where we can see.

One of the ways to push your discipline forward is having right visualization. Visualize that you have already acquired those results and see what you feel. Regular visualization will help enable your attraction of the results according to the law of attraction. We may add some background music in order to enhance the power of your subconscious mind.
