Article Marketing and How To Rank Higher In Search Engines

When I talk with website owners who are starting to market their websites with article submissions and ask them what they hope to achieve, most of the time they will reference one or more of these benefits:

A better ranking in search engine results for their primary keywords, an increase in traffic from people clicking the links in the articles and finally, building a reputation as an expert in their field.

Personally, I think that the SEO benefits of article marketing are by far the most important of the three; ranking higher in search engine results for your keywords.

When trying to drive traffic to your website, you need to do something to attract the attention of your target market. This is what article marketing does-it places your website in a prominent position in an arena where your target market is hanging out.

Like anyone else, your target market searches for information online with Google and other search engines.

If your website is part of your business, you definitely want to be as high in the list of search results as you can for the search terms your likeliest readers or customers commonly use. If you can get your site at or near the top of these results, you will see much more targeted traffic - this is traffic from people who are interested in the subject matter of your site already and as such are the most desirable visitors.

Targeted traffic is exactly what you want - these are the people who are the most likely to be interested in what your site has to offer. The following SEO techniques are ones which can help your site to get a higher ranking in the search results returned by Google and other engines:

1 - Determine what keywords to use. Keywords are the search terms that your target audience will search for when they are looking for a website or a business such as your own.

After determining what these words are, you need to work them into your site's content. It is a good idea to do a little research on this even if you already think you know what to use. There are plenty of free and commercial keyword research tools you can use, including Google Keywords, Keyword Discovery, Overture and Word Tracker, to name just a few.

2- Write articles about the same topics as your website. This will mean that the same keywords should find their way into your articles naturally. Before you submit your articles, however, you should look them over to see if you've used them in the title, content and resource box.

Though it is important to use your keywords in this content, you should aim at keeping your articles easy to read and natural-sounding above all. Remember that you are writing primarily for your readers, with search engines second in importance. Avoid stuffing your articles with keywords, keeping the density of keywords at 3% or less.

3- Submit articles consistently for the lifetime of your website. This means submitting a few articles each month, month in and month out. This is perhaps the area where people most go astray-consistency is paramount.

Article marketing is a powerful method of improving page ranking which can also directly drive sales; but only if you are diligent and keep at it. The benefits of this SEO technique are cumulative, so while you won't notice a difference right away, it will happen and can be dramatic. Once you make writing and submitting articles a habit, you will soon see your site moving up in the search engine rankings.
